BoxyCharm December 2017

I cannot believe that 2017 is almost over! It feels like it was just yesterday that we were all making new year resolutions and talking about what a good year it would be. Personally, it was a pretty good year. Know who also had a pretty great year? BoxyCharm. Their boxes have continued to get better and better! I have been seriously so surprised by the products we have been receiving, all for only $21 a month.

If you have never heard of BoxyCharm, it is a monthly makeup subscription box. For $21 each month, you will receive 5 FULL SIZED makeup items. Even better, they usually include at least one prestige brand, such as Tarte. You can learn more and sign up here.

The first products that I noticed were the RealHer blush trio and Crown blush brush.

We have received previous Crown brushes and I have to say, I usually like them. While I do like this Crown Pro Blush brush, I will not be using it for blush. It is really soft and blends product well but I just think it is too dense to be used for blush. I ended up going back in with my regular blush brush to soften the look. I do think this brush could work well for contour. This brush retails for $12.

The RealHer Blush Kit includes three different blushes; Fearless (pink), Limitless (peach), and Unstoppable (peachy bronze nude). While these might look a little intimidating in the pan, they are really beautiful on. They each have a luminous finish but no apparent glitter. They blend beautifully and are not too pigmented. I really like mixing Limitless and Unstoppable. This palette retails for $32 on the RealHer site but you can get a 20% off coupon by signing up for their emails.

If you have been visiting my blog for a while now, you probably know I am a big fan of color correctors. Usually, I use a green one to combat my redness but I have been thinking about picking up a peach toned one for my dark circles. The Bellápierre Pro Concealer Palette contains three color correctors in green, lavender and orange. Sadly, I was not a huge fan of this palette. The product is too stiff and thick to blend properly and the orange is too dark for me to use. If you are looking for a good color corrector, I highly recommend the Color Correcting Liquid Concealer from Ulta.

I am a sucker for pretty packaging. When Pretty Vulgar was first released at Sephora, I was captivated. I loved the feminine vintage feel of their packaging. I was so excited when I saw the Pretty Vulgar My Lips Are Sealed Liquid Lipstick in Secret Sabotage in my box. It is a nude color with a metallic finish. This is truly a liquefied lipstick in the sense that it is not matte and will not dry down to be transfer proof. My favorite way to wear this is as a gloss or lip topper. If you put this just in the center of your lips, it looks so pretty. These retail for $24 and come in 8 shades.

I was shocked to see this final product; the Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara. I am a HUGE fan of Tarte mascaras. Previously, my favorite was the Lights, Camera, Splashes Mascara. However, this one might take it’s place. It really defines my lashes and gives me the volume I love while making them very black. It does not flake or smudge unless water is introduced. These retail for $23 but are currently on sale for $10 at Ulta Beauty.

I mean, what can I say? BoxyCharm knocked it out of the park again. I really enjoyed all of these products, with the exception of the color correcting palette. While some of the items are over priced (I’m looking at you, RealHer blush palette) for only $21, this box is well worth it!

Have you tried any of these products before? What do you think? Let me know in the comments below!

Boxycharm November 2017

Its that time again; time for Boxycharm! I didn’t write a post for last month’s because there was another mishap with my shipping address and I ended up receiving it rather late. That being said, as soon as I saw the sneak peaks for this month I was so excited!

If you are unfamiliar with Boxycharm, it is a cosmetics subscription box that costs $21 per month. Each month you will receive at least 5 full sized products. Recently, they have been including things like eye shadow pallets and even a full sized Becca highlighter!

One of the more unconventional items in this month’s box were the three Collagen Infused Lip Masks from KNC Beauty. Basically, they are like a sheet mask but for your lips. When you first open the package they look like a pink jelly and feel somewhat slimy. You just put the mask over your lips and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. They are said to condition, moisturize, plump and hydrate and it is recommended to use one 2-3 times a week. I will say, that my lips felt hydrated immediately after use but I did not find it to plump or have lasting effects. These are fun to use, but I would not repurchase at $5 a pop.

Next was the Luxie Beauty Quad Eye Travel Set. These are said to retail for $32 but they are not currently available on the Luxie website. Normally, I really love Luxie brushes. They are soft and blend products well. However, I was not a huge fan of these travel brushes. I felt that they just did not blend well and found myself reaching for my Spectrum brushes instead. Unfortunately, I would say these are a pass for me.

Boxycharm has been on top of the eyeshadow pallete game recently. In this month’s box, we received the Winkylux Kitten Palette that retails for $25. There are 9 different shadows in what the website claims are four finishes: “holographic, matte, satin and glitter.”

Personally, I would say Duchess, Strut, Cheshire and Boots are mattes; Purr, Cateye and Romeo are all shimmers; and Holographic and 9 Lives are both duochrome.

For this look, I ended up using Duchess as my base with Strut all over my crease. Then I went in with Cheshire a little lower in the crease and on the outer corner. I took a damp, flat brush as used Romeo all over the lid. On the lower lashline, I went in with a little Strut and Cheshire. Finally, I used Purr as my inner corner and brow bone highlight.

Overall, I really enjoy this palette. I think it is great to travel with and includes a lot of really fun colors. I only wish it had a mirror.

Next we have LAQ A&Co Cloud Lips in Sunshower. On the brand website these are described as, “Surprisingly fluffy, Cloud Lips Airy Matte Lipstick delivers full coverage color for a pillow-soft pout. Available in 4 high-pigment shades, these lipsticks were formulated to last all day without feeling stiff thanks to avocado oil” and they retail for $17. Honestly, I really like the formula. The color was vibrant and the formula was light weight. The only thing I did not like was the tube it came in. For such a bright, bold color it was hard to achieve a precise application. I ended up having to go in with a lip brush. While I really like the product, it is just not practical for me as I would have to reapply throughout the day.

The final product was probably the one I was most excited for; the Cover FX Illuminating Setting Spray. These retail for $31 a bottle and is said to “provide instant illumination while giving your makeup serious staying power.” I have always used setting sprays, but even more now that my skin is more dry. I rely on them to keep my makeup from looking dry and cakey. First, that packaging on this is a beautiful white/pink iridescent. Also, the spray nozzle and mist is AMAZING! It is so fine and beautiful. The illuminating part of the spray comes from very fine glitter particles. I didn’t mind them except for how they looked on my eyebrows. I really like this product. I just recommend to shake VERY WELL before using so that you don’t have large deposits of glitter on your face and make sure to use one had to cover your eyes and brows so they they do not end up glittery.

Did I like every product in this month’s Boxycharm? Sadly no. I will use the remaining lip patches but would never repurchase. The brushes will probably end up at the bottom of the drawer and I only see using the lippie for pictures. However, the products I did like made it well worth the $21. I will definitely continue to use the eyeshadow palette and I am super into the Cover FX setting spray.

What about you, do you think this month’s Boxycharm was worth it? Let me know!

Boxycharm: September 2017

I have to say, this month I am even more impressed by Boxycharm than usual. First, even with Hurricane Irma, my box managed to get to me by the 15th. That alone seems to be a miracle. Second, not only did they include a full sized eyeshadow palette but there was a bonus sixth item.

So far this month, I am a really happy girl. To see all what we got along with swatches and spoilers for next month, just keep on reading.

I am always switching between a brush and a sponge to apply my foundation. Sometimes, I even like to go in with a brush first and a sponge second. The first item in my box was the Bare Minerals Perfecting Foundation Brush ($28). Unfortunately, I do not like this brush for foundation. I find it to be too small and kind of awkward to use. However, I think it could be really great for cream contour, highlight and even concealer. I am going to continue to play with this too see if I can find some other use.

I am not usually one for loose powder products. They can be messy, especially when traveling. However, I am always down to try something new. In my box, I got the Luminous Loose Blush from Studio Makeup ($30?). I really enjoy the color for fall, and it was easy to apply with a less dense brush. I wouldn’t purchase this product myself, but I will continue to use it. I would like it for you, but it seems that it is no longer available on the Studio Makeup website.

Probably the most exciting item in the box is the Soiree Diaries Eyeshadow Palette from PUR ($34). This palette contains 4 matte shades, 4 satin shades and 4 shimmers. It is a neutral/warm toned palette that is perfect for everyday looks. I found the colors to be beautiful, blendable and pigmented. I think this is a great everyday palette and would be perfect to travel with. I also think that it would work really well on most skin tones.

Another huge surprise was a MAC Eyebrows Crayon in Spiked ($18). I have fairly dense eyebrows and usually just use a brow powder to fill in sparse areas. This pencil works well and the tone is perfect for me. The only problem is that once it twists up, you cannot twist it back down. Other than that, it is not a bad product.

I haven’t tried a ton of products from them before, so I was excited about receiving a ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Mess Around ($6). I wasn’t too sure about the color at first and unfortunately it did not suit me. It was a dark grey/brown and looked patchy on my lips. The formula was comfortable and may work best over the top of a lip liner. For me, I think I will stick with my other lip sticks.

We receive a bonus 6th product, the Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! hair mask 2 oz (~$18). While this isn’t A full sized product, it a decent travel size. It left my hair feeling soft and had a nice smell but, I do not think it is worth the high price tag. I rather use the Clariol iThrive Keratin Rescue, which is 5 oz for about $10.

Overall, did I like this box? Yes! I really love the eyeshadow palette and blush. Although I wouldn’t have bought them myself, I will continue to use the eyebrow pencil, hair mask and foundation brush. The only product I will not use is the colourpop lipstick because I did not like the color. Overall, this box has a retail value of $134. That’s pretty amazing considering it only costs $21 a month.

If you’d like to sign up for boxycharm, you can get more information here. So far in October we will be receiving a Tarte Tartiest Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint ($20), Dr Brandt Pore Dermabrasion ($58) and either a liquid highlighter ($41) or pressed highlighter ($38) in Prosecco Pop from Becca. Pretty great huh?

What would you like to see in the next Boxyharm?

Boxycharm: August 2018

I am part of a really cool group on Facebook called Boxycharm Beauties. Here, you can buy, sell and trade items you receive in your box. But, the best part has to be that the CEO is a member of the group and frequently gives us sneak peaks. So, when I heard that we would be getting a palette from Tarte, I was so excited!

If you are unfamiliar with Boxycharm, it is a monthly suscriptiom box. You pay $21 a month and receive at least 5 full sized beauty products. This month I received:  falsies, gel eye liner, face paint, 3 brush set and an eyeshadow palette.

The first thing that everyone received is a pair of false eyelashes from PÜR. There were two different styles that you could receive. I received the style Diva and they retail for $14. I personally do not wear false eyelashes but will be saving these to put into a future giveaway.

The next product everyone received was a set of three Pro makeup brushes from Royal and Langenickle. These brushes are so nice! They have a good weight to them and they are comfortable to hold. They are also super soft. The crease brush is fantastic because it comes to a nice point for more precise application. The tapered blush brush is also great for contour. The only brush I wasn’t a fan of was the chisel brush, though it could be good for undereye concealer or baking. You can find more information on the brushes here, they will be released for sale this fall.

The final universally received product is the Rainforest of the Sea Volume 2 palette by Tarte. This eyeshadow palette comes in a beautiful compact with mirror and retails for $36.

This is a really great everyday palette. It has 3 shimmer shades and the rest are satin mattes. They claim that you don’t need primer or a brush with this palette and I find that to be true. The formula is really fantastic. While you can use your finger for application, I prefer a brush if I want to have a more precise application.

Now is where the products can differ from box to box. I was needing a new black liner, so I was excited when I received the Waterproof Gel Eyeliner by Bellapierre which retails for $15. It came to a very fine point which turned out to not be a great thing as it was too sharp to use on my waterline. After I wore it down a bit, it worked better. However, I’m still not a fan. It is not black enough and it tugs when you use it. I don’t foresee myself using this much in the future.

The final product I received is the Aloette Face Paint in Pink a Boo which retails for $35. This cream pigment is great for cheeks and lips. The color is buildable and you only need the tiniest bit. I really like this for a sheer wash of color and for every day looks.

Here is a picture of me wearing all of the products. This month’s box was really great! I loved all of the products with the exception of the eyeliner and chisel brush. I’ve seen some spoilers for the rest of the year, and they are going to be awesome. If you aren’t signed up yet, I highly suggest you do it soon.

What were your go to products this month?

July 2017 Boxycharm

Although it is already August, I still wanted to get my Boxycharm review up for July. Even though it came in late, I can’t deny that I was happy with almost all of the products.

In July’s box there was a sunscreen, eyeshadow palette, eyebrow pencil, liquid lip and body illuminizer. All products that are perfect for summer.

The first product is the Bare Minerals Prep Step SPF 50. Now, I am really really pale. Between my complexion and being on isotretinoin, I burn so easily. I really enjoyed this sun screen. It is very liquidy, but it dries down to a powder like finish. I doesn’t clog pores and is perfect for wearing under makeup.

The next product was good in theory, but not so much in practice. It is the Body Illumizier from Ofra. I have a similar product the I DIYed myself, you can check it out here. My only problem with this product is that it is a little too dark for my skin tone. It works, but I have to be very careful to make sure I rub it in all the way and take care that there are no streaks. This would be beautiful for darker skin tones.

From Colour Pop, everyone received a liquid lipstick. Mine was the Ultra Matte Liquid Lip in Monday. It is a beautiful pinkie brown shade. I can’t wait to wear it, but it is just a little too drying for me right now.

A few months ago we received a brow powder trio and I have to say I prefer it to this month’s brow pencil. The color was the right shade for me and I really like the packaging. However, the formula was really dry. I feel like I had to press so hard and to warm up the product to get it to work.

The final product in this month’s box was a Blinc Electric Eyes Eyeshadow Palette. I have to say, I LOVE this! The colors are beautiful and pigmented. They also blend well and are so shimmery. The only thing I dislike is that there is no matte shade to set primer or use as a transition. So you will need another palette, but in my opinion it is still beautiful and worth it.

Overall, I am happy with this box. I love the eye shadow palette and the sunscreen. The body illumizier and liquid lip are pretty and I will use them. As for the brow pencil, I am going to try and work with it before giving up. At the very least, it’ll be nice to travel with.

What are some of your favorite summer items?

Boxycharm: June 2017

Just when I feel like I am ready to stop my Boxycharm subscription, they pull me back in with another great box. If you are unfamiliar with Boxycharm, it is a makeup subscription box where you get 5 full sized products every month for only $21! If you’d like more information, you can check out their site here.

I was a little frustrated with Boxycharm at the beginning of this month. I never seem to get my boxes as early as others, plus they sent the first box to my old address even though I had updated it on their website the previous month. That being said, they were very quick to respond to my inquiry and a replacement box was sent to my new address. I actually received it quicker than the box sent to the wrong address (thanks fedex tracking!) Thankfully, this box was so good, it made up for the hassle and the being late.

The first items in the box were 3 sheet masks from Biobelle Cosmetics and they retail for $4.99 a piece. I received one to prime for makeup, one to hydrate the skin and one to enhance the skin’s natural glow. Now, I really love sheet masks so this was super exciting. I decided to start with the hydrating #BeautySecret mask. I put it in the freezer for about 5 minutes so that the coolness would help sooth and depuff. These masks are VERY saturated in serum. Some may be turned off by that, but I love it. Instead of the standard 15 minutes, I like to keep sheet masks on until they start to dry. I just feel that helps me to get the most benefit from the mask. So I left it on for about an hour. When I took it off,  my skin was a little tacky, so I massaged the left over serum in for a minute and then rinsed off the residue. Let me just say, my skin was left feeling so soft and supple. I can’t wait to try the other masks.

The second item was a 9 pan eyeshadow palette from RealHer and it retail for $28.00. There were three different palettes and I received Volume I. This palette is more warm toned and consists of mostly shimmer shadows. I really did enjoy it, but would have preferred if Fine (white shimmer) had been a matte. Strong (matte brown) made a beautiful crease shade and I was really in love with Proud and Creative for all over the lid. Smart (matte black) was also a really nice shade to deepen the crease and smoke things out. We had previously received a RealHer liquid lip that I was not a fan off, but this palette is not bad. I would definitely pick it up if it were on sale for $20.

Boxycharm really likes to give products that go together. This month it was a loose highlighter and a highlighting brush. The brush is the Rose Gold Pro Precision Tapered Face Brush 640 by Luxie Beauty and retails for $24. This brush is so soft and beautiful! However, I think it would be better for setting concealer or to use with a very pigmented blush or bronzer. Also, you can get 20% off your first order from Luxie by signing up with your email.

The highlighter is the Artist Couture Diamond Glow Powder in Illuminati which retails for $26.99. Let me just say, this powder will having you glowing like no other! It has a light silver and champagne iridescence that is so beautiful and flattering. The only thing that I dislike is how glittery it is. You really have to buff it into the skin and even then you will have some fallout. It is so pretty though and would look great on the body or eyes.

One brand that is always being hyped up is Ofra. I was so excited to finally get the chance to try out a product from them. In my box, I received the Ofra Liquid Lipstick in Santa Ana. These retail for $19.90 but you can get 30% off of your purchase with the code Boxy30. The website describes this as “a berry rose and universally flattering pink shade with a hydrating matte finish.” I have to say, I agree with all of that. This formula is definitely a comfortable matte. But don’t be fooled, it is not transfer proof and it doesn’t dry down all the way. That being said, it is long wearing. It fades beautifully and is easy to reapply and layer. The formula is one of my new favorites and I can’t wait to try more.

That’s all that I got in this month’s box. Even though it took a while to get here, I am so happy with what I got. I can’t wait to see what will be coming next month.

What would you like to see included in the next Boxycharm?

Boxycharm May 2017

If you’ve never heard of Boxycharm, it is a monthly subscription beauty box that includes 5 full size products. I’ve tried so many different boxes and this one continues to be a favorite. However, I have to say, I wasn’t extremely excited for this month’s box. The previews made it seem like a lot of basics and stuff that I already had. However, I was pleasantly surprised.

This box came with a brow powder palette, spoolie and brow brush, highlight and contour palette, liquid highlight, and oval face brush.

The first product I tried was the Crown Brushes Round Contour Brush ($24.99). I was really worried that this brush would be terrible. Is it Artis quality? No, but it was soft and it did blend out my foundation fairly well. I really like the cap that it came with. I think I will use this brush to travel with instead of taking my Artis. Overall it’s a 👍🏻

The next two products go together, The Brow Gal Convertable Brow ($35) and Brow Brush ($14). They say that you can use the product dry as a brow powder or wet as a pomade. There are three shades so you can mix to get your perfect color match.

I used the spoolie first to brush out my brows. I then used the angled brush and the darkest powder. I didn’t notice a difference with the product wet or dry. That being said, it did fill in my brows nicely. Though I enjoyed the brush and the powder was nice, I don’t think I’ll get use of all the colors.

I was really excited for the Temptu x Boxycharm liquid glow ($29.50). I’ve really been loving liquid highlights lately.

The highlight blended out easily and was fairly reflective. Unfortunaly, once on my cheek bones, it was too dark for my skin tone since I am so fair right now. I think this color could be great for light-medium skin tones. I also think it could work nicely to mix into a foundation.

The final product we received was the IBY Beauty Highlight & Contour Palette ($40). This palette includes 3 powder highlight and 3 powder contour shades.

I ended up using highlight 2 to set my concealer. I happened to forget my face powder when I was packing to spend the week at my parents, so I used a very light dusting of Highlight 1 and 3 to set my makeup. I finished with using Contour 3 to contour my cheeks bones and nose. Overall, I really enjoyed this palette.

Though there were both hits and misses, this box was definitely worth the $21. I will for sure continue to use the oval brush, brow brush and contour palette. I’m going to experiment with using the highlight on my eyes and mixed with foundation. The brow powder is nice, but I really prefer using my Ulta Brow gel.

What did you think of this month’s Boxycharm? Are there any new subscriptions you’ve been dying to try?

March Boxycharm Unboxing

For those who are unfamiliar, Boxycharm is a makeup monthly subscription box. For just $21 a month, you get 5 full sized products to play with. It’s a great way to experiment with new brands and products you may not normal purchase, all for a fraction of the retail price. The boxes usually ship out between the 5th and the 13th of each month. However, they were quite delayed this month due to the winter storms. But it’s finally here!

So I’m just going to go item to item and give you a little mini review.

The first item in this month’s box is the Photo Finish Primer ($16) by Smashbox. I have never tried this product, but it is a cult favorite. At first, it had a strange texture, kind of slippy. However, it sunk into my skin and helped my foundation to glide on. It claims to blur fine lines and pores, and I definitely think it delivered on that.

The next product is the Urban Rustic Palette ($40) by Naked Cosmetics. This is a trio of shimmer shadows in purple, orange and green. Though I wouldn’t use all three colors together, they are stunning! I really love using the green or orange all over my lid. The purple is stunning on the outer corner or on the lid with a highlight shade in the middle. The only downside is there is a lot of fallout, so I would apply these before foundation. Also, for a beautiful metallic look, apply wet.

The third product is the SS023 Deluxe Fan Brush ($19) by Crown Brush. I always love getting brushes in subscription boxes because I rarely buy them myself. This brush is super soft and very pretty. I would not use this for highlight unless you want an all over glow. My favorite way to use this brush is to contour. I get the pretty contour without being too dark or too harsh. Really, its a great addition to my brush collection.

The final two products are lip products from RealHer. The first is a lip liner in I Am Unstoppable ($12.50). It is a beautiful peachy nude color. I really enjoyed the formula. It glides on smoothly and is very comfortable to wear. It is also fairly long lasting. I has the swatch on my hand, got in the shower, and when I got out it was still there! My favorite way to wear this is to fill in my lips and top with a similarly colored gloss.

The final product from RealHer is their Matte Liquid Lipstick ($15) in I Am Fearless. The formula is very light weight and feels like very oily. It dries down very quickly and the color that I got was a beautiful berry shade. However, I found this formula to be too drying for me. Also, this particular color really stains. I don’t think I will be trying this product again, but I did enjoy the packaging.

Even though this month’s box arrived late, I really enjoyed it! Overall, I liked 4 out of the five products. That means, for me, this box has a total value of $87.48! Not too bad what to whole box was only $21.

Have you tried any of these products before?

Happy Friday!

Sammie
