Kathleen Lights x Colourpop

I am a huge fan of Kathleen Lights. I mean, how could you not like her? She is so sweet, kind, funny and down to earth. She has stayed so genuine and authentic. Honestly, she is one of the few YouTube beauty gurus that I feel I can trust 100%. When I first saw her newest collab with Colourpop, I thought it was stunning! I actually held off on buying it for awhile. Of course, once I saw everyone using it, I caved. I purchased both the Dream St palette and the Dream Team lip bundle.

If you are not familiar with Colourpop, they have collaborated with Kathleen Lights several times. They are known for offering quality products that are cruelty free, on trend and very affordable.

the products

The product I was most excited to try from the Kathleen Light x Colourpop collab is the Dream St eyeshadow palette ($16). This palette contains 12 shades with a mix of matte, satin and metallic shades.

Colors: Shooting Star (matte), Magical (matte), Star Dust (metallic), Twinkle (metallic), Sweet Dreams (metallic), Water Bearer (matte), Potion (matte), Spark (matte), Kaleidoscope (metallic), Elfish (matte), Moony (satin), and Mermaid Boy (metallic).

What I was most drawn to in this pallet was the interesting mix of colors. I loved that there was a true coral (Spark), a gold and silver (Sweet Dreams and Kaleidoscope), and two beautiful teals (Water Bearer and Mermaid Boy). Beyond that, it looked like there were a good mix of transition, highlight and lid shades.

The second half of the Kathleen Lights x Colourpop collab is the Dream Team lip trio ($16). Colourpop has a TON of different lip formulas ranging from glossy to satin to ultra matte. This bundle contains one ultra glossy lip and one ultra satin lip.

The ultra glossy lip is in the shade Moon Child ($6). This gloss is really smooth and not sticky. Moon Child is a pinky nude with very tiny flecks of gold glitter. It is fairly pigmented and looks beautiful on its own or over the top of a liner or lipstick.

The first ultra satin is in the shade Dreamy ($6.50). Dreamy is a peachy pink and is a really pretty neutral color. The other ultra satin lip, Rêver ($6.50), is a neon orange red. Both shades are really beautiful and would be perfect for spring and summer. They are comfortable to wear and, while not transfer proof, they do last a good amount of time. My only problem with the ultra satin lips is that they seems a little patchy to me. However, these would be perfect layered over a matching lip liner.

The Looks

As with every eyeshadow palette review, I wanted to create a few different looks using only the shadows in the palette.

For this first look, I really wanted to keep things simple. I started with Shooting Star as my transition shade. Next, I went in with Spark all over my lid and blended into the crease as well as on my lower lash line. Then, I put a little Elfish on the outer corner of both the lid and lower lash line. Finally, I put Stardust on the inner corner.

I wanted this next look to be all about the teal. I used Shooting Star for my transition shade followed by Water Bearer in the outer half of the crease. After everything was blended, I packed Water Bearer on the outer third of my lid, making sure to blend any edges. Next, I packed on Kaleidoscope on the inner half of my lid and used Mermaid Boy to blend the silver and teal together. I mirrored the same shades on the lower lash line followed by Moony and Kaleidoscope on the inner corner.

I love a halo eye. They are just so fun and pretty. I used a Spark as my transition shade and on the lower lash line but went back in with Magical to blend it out. Next, I packed Water Bearer all over the lid and smoked out the lower lash line. Make sure to blend any edges. Take some of your favorite concealer, and add to the center of the lip and lash line to create a halo. Top the concealer with Twinkle on both the lid and lash line. I then used a little Mermaid boy to blend Twinkle and Water Bearer followed by Moony on the inner corner.

final thoughts

Of the two products in the Kathleen Lights x Colourpop dream collection, I highly recommend the Dream St eyeshadow palette ($16). The colors are beautiful, blend well and are perfect for spring. I think this palette has all the shades you would need for a complete look and is small enough to travel with.

As for the lip products, they were all good. Personally, I will wear Moon Child Ultra Glossy Lip ($6) the most. The other two are really pretty, but definitely need a lip liner base in my opinion. Plus, I am not sure how much use I will get out of a neon orange red lippie.

Which of these products speak to you? Will you be picking any up?

Boxycharm: January 2018

Its the last day of January, so what better way to finish the first month of 2018 than with a Boxycharm review! I seriously can’t believe that January is already over. It seems like it was just yesterday I was finishing my finals and getting ready for Christmas and now I’m back in school getting ready to take some midterms. Though it was a little late this month, my Boxycharm arrived at the perfect time. I was definitely in need of a little boost to get me through the month.

If you aren’t familiar with Boxycharm, it is a monthly makeup subscription box. For just $21 a month you receive 5 full sized products. Honestly, you can’t beat that! You can check out how to sign up here.

The products

This month we received TWO palettes, a primer, eyebrow pencil, and liquid lipstick.

The first palette is the Crown Pro Glam Metals Eyeshadow Palette ($29). This palette has 9 shimmer/metallics and two mattes.

Overall, this palette is okay. Would I ever spend $29 on it? Not a chance. But I am happy to have it. The shimmers are pretty and a few are rather unique to what I already have in my collection. The mattes are really terrible. They are not pigmented at all. The palette is super cute and I will continue to use the shimmers on the lid, inner corner and lower lashline.

The second palette we received is the PUR Bronze & Brighten Cheek Palette ($34). This palette contains an Afterglow highlighter, Mineral Glow bronzer, and a new blush in the shade Blushing Glow.

All three of these products are super pigmented! Also, they all contain shimmer. The being said, I think this is a really great, versatile palette. All three shades are super creamy and would be beautiful on the eyes. I also really love using these on the face, just make sure to use a less-dense, fluffy brush. Considering I can use this on the face and eyes, I think this is a great palette for any girl on the go.

Guys, I was SO EXCITED when I say this primer in my box! I have heard so many people rave about the regular one, I couldn’t wait to try the Dr. Brandt Pores No More Luminizer Primer ($38). When putting this on the skin, it felt hydrating and sunk in without leaving a weird film. I noticed my pores looked smaller and I was definitely luminous. My foundation applied beautifully. The only thing I noticed was my foundation breaking up really badly after a few hours. I’m not sure if it was the primer or something else. I will keep trying it with other foundations and update later.

From It Cosmetics, we received the Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil ($24). The tip on the pencil isn’t super fine, but for me that is okay. I only have a few places I like to fill in, so I do not need anything too precise. My only problem with this product is it only comes in one shade, “universal taupe.” While this shade may work for most light skin tones, I have a feeling it would look really ashy on medium to deep skin tones.

The final item in the box was a Girlactik Matte Lip Paint in Posh ($23). I have never tried anything from Girlactik and was excited to give this a shot.

The color was really pretty, but nothing overly exciting. The formula went on smoothly and pigmented. It dried down after a couple minutes and was transfer proof. This lasted through me drinking coffee and eating. It only started to fade after I ate some greasy Mexican food. It was really comfortable to wear, though it did make my lips look a little dry. I would be open to purchasing more colors if they ever had a good sale.

final thoughts

We received three HUGE brand name products this month from PUR Cosmetics, It Cosmetics and Dr. Brandt. Overall, this month’s box had a total retail value of $148. To me, it was totally worth it! I love Boxycharm because you get to try so many brand name products for an incredible price.

What product were you most excited for this month?

Tarte Holiday 2018

I’ve said it before and I will say it again, I love Tarte Cosmetics. I can’t think of a product from them that I have tried that I didn’t like. I especially love their blushes and the Hybrid Gel Foundation. One thing that I enjoy about the holidays are all the cosmetic releases. So many brands release value packs for discount rates, it makes it hard to decide what to pick up. Tarte is one of those brands, but they go above and beyond. They have so many great releases and exclusives for every beauty supplier. What really caught my eye were the Lip Luxuries Deluxe Lip Sculptor Set, Limited Edition Box Set and the Limited-Edition Tartiest Lip Bling Top Coat.

T

I am a huge fan of the Tarte Lip Sculptors! They are a lipstick and gloss duo that is perfect for traveling.

I know that matte lips have been all the rage, but I definitely need something more moisturizing, especially while I was on Isotretinoin. These are the perfect product. They are creamy and pigmented. They stay put without the need of a lip liner and make your lips look luscious.

Normally, one of these is $24 but in this set you get 5 travel sizes for $29. If you are the type of person who likes to wear a different lip color each day, this is the perfect set for you. Or, if there are only a couple color you would wear you can always break apart the pack and give the extras to others.

T (1)

I travel a lot and I love it. One problem that I have is that I have a tendency to over pack especially when it comes to my makeup. When I first saw this set at Ulta, I thought it would be the perfect set to travel with. It includes 25 eye shadows, two blushes, highlighter, bronzer, matte lip paint, glossy lip paint, sex kitten liner and tarteist mascara.

I used every shadow in the palette and I was fairly impressed. The only shades I did not like were bangle and treasured. Otherwise, I used the shadows in every row to create a look to demonstrate the palette diversity.

I really enjoyed the blushes and highlight. They were smooth and blended well. The only powder product I did not like was the bronzer because I think it is too light for most skin tones.

As I said earlier, I enjoy a glossy lip. This set included a mini of both the matte and glossy lip paints. They were not patchy and were comfortable to wear. I like to top the matte lip with the glossy lip when it starts to get too dry.

Overall, this little box has been great to travel with. I took it with me to Punta Cana and it had every thing I needed for a complete look. Sadly, this one was an Ulta exclusive and is no longer available. However you can pick up a similar one from Sephora or Macy’s.

T (2)

Lip toppers have been huge the last few months. It seems like every company is coming out with one. Personally, I have stayed away from them. I really dislike glosses that have sparkle in them because they have a tendency to feel gritty.

This topper is different. It is fairly sheer and has very fine gold and pink/purple glitter. It makes my lips look so juicy without being sticky or feeling gritty. It also doesn’t upset the liquid lip I wear underneath. I think this will be so pretty in the spring and summer or topped over a holiday red for a festive look.

T (2)

What can I say, Tarte killed it again! I really like all of these product. The only things I was not a huge fan of were the Sex Kitten Liner and the bronzer. Other than that, every thing works so well. If you can only get one thing, I recommend the lip sculptor set. New to makeup or travel often? Definitely give the palette a try.

What product do you like most?

Sephora Favorites: Give Me More Lip

While eyeshadow is probably my favorite beauty product, lipstick is a close second. I just love how easy it is to switch up your look with just using a different shade. The only probably, I have a tendency to buy a lot of similar shades. Even more, buying tons of different shades can get expensive quick. That is why I love the Sephora Favorites kits. They are a great way to try a bunch of products for a fraction of the cost.

I picked up the Give Me More Lip set up during the VIB sale so it was 20% off making it only about $56. It contains 5 full sized items and 10 sample sizes. Here are my thoughts on all the different products included.

The first product is a sample of the Hourglass Girl Lip Stylo in Influencer. The color is a deep rose beige and the formula is creamy and comfortable to wear. It is silky and feels hydrating. I think this is perfect for an everyday look, especially this color. I think if you use a more bold color than you will probably want a lip liner to get a more precise application. However, I really love this formula.

I have tried their translucent powder, but I had never tried a lip product from Laura Mercier before this kit. Included was a Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour in Sensual. It is a beautiful muted pink color with a satin finish. I find the formula to be creamy and pigmented. The only issue I have is that I feel it accentuates the lines in my lips. However, I think it is pretty and will continue to use it. It just might look a little better with a balm or hydrating primer underneath.

I feel like Marc Jacobs is a classic, from their fashion line to their beauty products and their lipsticks are no exception. The Le Marc Creme Lipstick in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a beautiful baked rose. This is a great everyday color in a formula that is pigmented and easy to use. It is a rich, creamy satin finish that is both comfortable and long wearing. Perfect to throw on and go since there is no need for a liner.

While classic brands are beautiful, I find myself drawn to more trendy brands and packaging. The Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Big Bang is cool and trendy through and through; from the hammered metal bullet to the metallic finish. The formula is creamy and very reflective and even though there is micro shimmer in it, it does not feel gritty. I do find this formula to be a little sheer and I think it would look best topped on a lip liner or on another lipstick.

Touch in Sol is know for their metallic liquid eyeshadow duos. I was so excited to see that they came out with a lip line as well. The Touch in Sol Metallist Liquid Lipstick duo in Jasmine is a very interesting idea. Once side is a liquid lipstick and the other is a coordinating gloss. The liquid lip dries down but it is VERY patchy, not very metallic and overall just unflattering. The gloss is really pigmented, reflective and comfortable to wear. Personally, I think it is a really fun look for a girls night out and wish Touch in Sol would sell the glosses separate. In the future, I will probably just use the gloss side.

Now I have to be honest, I am not the biggest fan of Too Faced. Sadly, this product was no exception. The Too Faced Melted Latex in Hot Mess is a beautiful berry shade. The shine is unreal, but sadly it is also patchy and very thick. If you don’t mind the feeling of a sticky gloss, then you would probably like this product. I would just recommend wearing it over a liner or lipstick. As you can see, the product is bleeding on the lip line.

I love a good matte liquid lip. I mean who doesn’t want something that is kiss proof? Beyond that, it needs to be comfortable as well as easy to use and evenly pigmented. The Smashbox Always on Matte Liquid Lipstick in Driver’s Seat has all of these qualities. I will say, it is not 100% transfer proof, but the transfer is so minimal I rarely notice it. I also love the applicator. It holds enough product so that I do not have to dip in multiple times but it also works great for lining the lips. The only thing I would recommend for all matte lipsticks is to exfoliate and hydrate your lips before using.

Though I love the long lasting kiss proof qualities of liquid lips, I also enjoy a glossy lip. Something I do often is, when my liquid lips starts to wear or get too dry, I will just put a plumping gloss on top. The Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Plumping Gloss in Pink is perfect for this. This gloss really doesn’t have any pigment to it but it provides a beautiful shine as well as a plumping effect. Though, the gloss can burn a little bit and might be too intense for some. Other really good plumping glosses (that are more affordable) are the Buxom Lip Creams and the Sephora Volume Glosses.

When I think of luxury, the first brand that comes to mind is Yves Saint Laurent. Everything in their collection is so clean, sleek and dipped in gold. I was so excited to see the YSL Rouge Pur Couture in N. 01 La Rouge included in this set. It is a classic blood red color in a beautiful gold bullet. It is a creamy formula that is very pigmented with a satin finish. While the tip is fine enough to line the lips, I recommend using a lip liner to get a really clean line because the formula is so creamy. This color also stains the lips so that it is not as apparent as it fades.

If the high price tag on some brands at Sephora scare you, there is one brand that offers good quality at a great price: the in house line. The Sephora Collection Lip Stain in #01 Always Red is not only affordable, but also stunning. The classic matte red is bright and bold. The formula is lightweight and glides on evenly. It is very comfortable to wear and has virtually no transfer. While you can use it alone, I almost always prefer to use a lip liner with bold colors such as this.

img_2564

One thing I love about the Sephora Favorites sets is the chance to try brands I have never even heard of. The Wander Beauty Wanderout Dual Lipstick in Nikki Beach and BB is both a brand and product that are completely new to me.

The packaging is very sleek and would be great for traveling since you get two products in one. Both colors are a matte finish and would be perfect in spring and summer. The formula was a little stiff at first but became more creamy with use. The pigmentation is even and I do nto think you would need a liner with them. However, they are a little drying and not my favorite matte formula. This full sized product retails for $30.

If you are not a fan or liquid lips or matte lipsticks, this product may be perfect for you. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss in Vintage is perfect to wear on its own or as a topper. The gloss is very pigmented and goes on evenly. You can wear it alone or also over a liner or lipstick. It isn’t sticky and, while super shiny, there is no apparent glitter or grittiness. Unlike the Dior gloss, there are no plumping ingredients. This lippie is full sized and retails for $16.

When I first started to really get into makeup, it did not take long for me to hear about Huda Kattan. When she first launched the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick in Bombshell, I knew I needed it in my collection. I held off buying it and I was excited to see it included here. The formula is very pigmented and watery. Unfortunately, those are the only pros I have. It does not dry down fully and continues to transfer. At the same time, it feels tight on my lips and stays very sticky. I am going to continue to play with this one to see if I can make it work because the color is pretty and I like thinner formulas. This one is also full sized and retails for $20.

One brand that I never thought I would own is Bobbi Brown. Her products are so luxurious and that means they are also so expensive. The Bobbi Brown Luxe Lipstick in Brocade retails for $37 and it is stunning. I was worried because I thought the bright plum color would be patchy. However, it was very pigmented and went on like a dream. It was comfortable to wear and felt very hydrating. The only thing I dislike is the size and shape of the lipstick. It is too large to get a clean application. Definitely use a lip brush or lip liner when applying.

The final full sized product is the Tarte Quench Lip Rescue in Nude and it retails for $19. I love wearing this as a daily treatment, when I wear more natural makeup or as hydrating top coat. This product glides on effortlessly with a high shine finish. It is comfortable and feels hydrating while adding a little shine. It is perfect for when running out the door or to put over the top of a more drying lipstick. I really love this one.

Totaling up just the full sized products, this Sephora Favorites set has a value of $122 plus you get an additional 10 products to sample and play with. Honestly, I am so impressed! Most of these products I will continue to use and there are a few I may even buy in the full size and in more colors! Unfortunately, this particular kit is now out of stock. However, if you are interested in picking up something similar there are a ton of options! My current favorites are Give Me Some Bold Lip ($28), Glow For It ($40), and the Perfume Sampler ($65).

Kiko Milano Cosmetics

It seems like makeup keeps getting more and more expensive. Especially when you are a fanatic, it is too easy to fall into the trap that price indicates quality. Next thing you know, you are justifying buying a $60 foundation. Or is that just me?

Luckily, I have found a brand that is not only great quality but budget friendly as well! Thanks to Octoly, I had to opportunity to try some products for free in exchange for my review. I have to say, I was not sure what to expect at first. Luckily, I was beyond impressed.

When it comes to mascara, I look for something that will define and volumize. The Luxurious Lashes Mascara ($12) formula definitely fits my needs. I am left with lashes that are black, volumized and fluffy. They hold a curl all day and I have had no problems with flaking or smudging. My only other thing I like in a mascara is for it to be waterproof. That being said, I find myself reaching for this mascara multiple times a week.

I have always been a fan of colored liner. I remember the first time my mom gave me a blue one, I was so excited! Now that I am older, that has not changed. I love a little color on the lower lash line or a bold wing. The Metallic Liquid Eyeliners ($10) are so fun! I got mine in a grey/gun metal color and I am in love. The pop of color is fun, wearable and perfect for the holidays. The formula was pigmented and I had no trouble creating a wing with the brush tip. It stayed all day with no cracking, smudging or feathering.

The final product that was sent to me through Octoly was the Velvet Passion Matte Lipstick ($12) in shade 316 which is a beautiful rose color. The first thing I noticed is that the cap in magnetized which I find so cool! I have carried this in my backpack and have had no problems with the cap sliding off. The next thing is the tip of the lipstick. It is slanted, which might look strange but is so useful! I use the tip to line my lips and the apply the lipstick like normal. It is so comfortable to wear and is long wearing. I had no problems with the formula becoming too dry or feathering. That being said, it is important to know that it is a traditional lipstick formula which means it is not transfer proof.

Overall, I am so impressed with all of these products! I have used the mascara and lipstick so many times over the last few weeks. I have not used the liner as much, but enjoy wearing it for a fun fall look or a night out with the girls. All of the products have been fantastic quality and are so affordable! I cannot wait to try more from Kiko Milano.

Review: Tarte Double Duty Beauty

I am always on the hunt for something new and interesting. Makeup is supposed to be fun and exciting. Even in the midst of looking for the next new thing, I have my go-to products that I always come back to. I recently realized that a lot of these products just happen to be from the Tarte Double Duty Beauty line. My love affair first started with the Hybrid Gel Foundation. This foundation was a God send after my skin dried out from taking isotretinoin. Since then, I have tried a lot of other products and Tarte has become one of my favorite brands.

One of the most popular items from Tarte’s Double Duty Beauty line is the Shape Tape Concealer. Though it is a little pricey at $25 a tube, it is so worth it! The formula is creamy, pigmented and blendable. It is perfect for covering blemishes as well as concealing under the eyes. The only problem is that it can be a little drying under the eyes if you have dryer skin. Currently, I like to layer it with my Maybelline Age Rewind and it is the perfect combo.

I am all about products that have dual purposes because I travel so much. They just make things easier and free up space in my bag. One of the newer Tarte products is their Blush & Glow highlighter and blush duo. I love the formula of this. The products are smooth and blend easily. The blush is not too pigmented, but buildable. I love the highlighter because it gives me a glow without being sparkly or accentuating texture. Beyond that, the packaging is beautiful, sleek and compact.

To help blend out concealer and foundation, there is the Double Duty Beauty Quickie Blending Sponge. I have to say, this isn’t my favorite sponge. It is just a little too stiff for my liking. I much prefer the Eco Tools sponge.

One of my all time favorite mascaras is the Light, Camera, Lashes from Tarte. So, I was more than happy to try out their Maneater Mascara. On their website, It claims to curl, lengthen and to give lashes 23x more volume. I have to say, I think it does all of the above. I love using this because it gives me the volume I want and keeps my lashes curled all day without any smudging or flaking.

Another awesome product to travel with is the Tarte Lip Sculptor lipstick and gloss duo. I love a glossy lip. With my skin being so dry, I need as many moisturizing products as possible. I love this because the formulas are pigmented and comfortable to wear. You can layer them or wear them on their own. The lipstick is so creamy and the gloss is not too sticky. Being that they are so compact, it is a great product to keep in your purse.
A similar concept to the lip sculptor is the Tarte Lip Architect. This is perfect for the girl on the go that does not want a glossy lip. It is a cream finish and it super moisturizing. One side is a lip liner and the other is a coordinating lipstick. While I enjoy the application, these are not the longest wearing but they are very comfortable.

The final product for today is the Sweet Tarte Fragrance Rollerball. This is a nice sweet fragrance. I like to keep this roller ball in my purse to use after going to the gym.

Over the last year, Tarte has become a favorite brand. Their double duty line has so many amazing products! Right now, Ulta even has a set with the full size highlighter/blush compact, lip architect, mini mascara and roller ball perfume. The whole kit is only $36!

YSL Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain

While I LOVE makeup, I have my limits. I can walk up and down the aisles of my local Sephora and swatch anything that looks appealing. However, when it comes to buying some products I just can’t. What I am talking about is the luxury brands like YSL, Guerlain and Bobbi Brown. While the products may look stunning, it is hard to bring myself to spend $48 on a highlighter. So, when I received the notification that I was in the YSL voxbox from Influenster and would be receiving a YSL product for free, I was ecstatic! I would finally be able to put one of these luxury products to the test.

If you haven’t heard of Influenster before, it is a network of people that like to review products. When you are selected for a campaign, they send you product for free which you then get to review. There is no requirement for a positive review. While I did receive this lippie for free, all of my thoughts are honest and true.

T

The product we received was the YSL Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain ($36). I received color 8 Black Red Code which is a deep burgundy color and let me tell you, I was worried. I had never used a dark lip stain that actually left an even stain on my lips. Usually, they wear off and leave my lips looking patchy.

This product claims to give “lips matte tattoo-like color that is lightweight and non-drying, making it ultra-comfortable to wear. The high-pigment color dries instantly, stays fresh, and moves with your lips for up to eight hours of wear. The exclusive liner-like applicator allows for precision outlining and filling in—creating perfectly defined lips every time. The color never feathers or spills over the lip line.” Sounds pretty perfect, right?

T (1)

While the packaging is beautiful and the applicator is interesting, what really matters is how the product wears. At $36, I was expecting perfection.

When I first applied the product at 12:30, I was impressed. The color was beautiful, pigmented and went on smoothly. The applicator was also great at lining the lips. However, I let it dry for about 10 minutes and was still getting a little bit of transfer. After eating, very carefully, around 1:15 I started to get the line on my inner lips. By 3:30, it was so bad that I decided to reapply. I put the product only where it had worn off and it layered really well.

After reapplying, my lips look great again. This time, I was determined to not eat or anything to see how the color would last. Unfortunately, it was about the same. In only two hours, I had the wear line again. I left it alone this time for about 30 minutes when I decided to see how the product stained. I lightly rubber the product, and to my surprised there really wasn’t any stain.

T (2)

This color is beautiful. I love the color and the formula is comfortable to wear, but unfortunately I do not think that it meets all of the claims. While lightweight and not too drying, the formula does not dry instantly on me nor do I get 8 hours of wear. Since my initial test, I have worn it three times and had the same results. That being said, the applicator is great for lining the lips and I had no problem with feathering.

Sadly, I would not recommend this product. I do like it, but I would never pay $36 for it. If you are looking for a comfortable lip stain, I definitely prefer the Revlon Balm Stains and they are much more affordable.

Hit or Miss: Lipsense

By now, we have all heard of lipsense. The supposed miracle lip color that “lasts until you take it off.” With claims that it is kiss, smudge and budge proof, who wouldn’t be interested? Add in the fact that there are over 50 available shades, it is more than a little tempting.

When deciding to purchase lipsense, I had two big issues. The first being that you can’t swatch the product or try it before buying it. At around $25 per lip color, it was hard to commit. My second big issues was the high alcohol content. To me, they seemed like alcohol paints but in a lip gloss tube. I even had one seller tell me my lips would look terrible for the first 2 weeks as they adjusted to the product because the product would “exfoliate them.” That totally did not sound appealing.

So, due to the starter set being $55 I held off from buying anything for a long time. That is until I ran into a seller that was getting rid of all her stock. I ended up purchasing the color Aussie Rose and the Pearl Gloss. I figured I would skip the Oops Remover and try to remove with oil. With her clearance discount, I ended up paying $32 for the two.

When you use this product, they suggest to use three layers. Apply a thin layer going in one direction across lips and let dry 5 seconds in between layers. After the third layer, apply the gloss.

So I put on the product at 9:45 in the morning. It was fairly comfortable and I was ok without adding more gloss until about 1:45 in the afternoon. At that time, I started to get the dreaded ring. I found that I was able to reapply the product in the patchy area without a problem. I ended up keeping the lip color on until 8 pm.

I have used this product about 6 times now and feel I have a pretty good understanding. As for the pros: it is long wearing and can be removed easily with micellar water or olive oil. For the cons: it is expensive, you have to buy the gloss and carry it with you, there is a chemically taste when you first apply and it can be difficult to get a precise application.

In the end, the product is long wearing but it is expensive and high maintenance. I only have the one color, but I worry that darker colors would be patchy and not as long wearing. In the end, I would much rather wear my Wet n Wild Catsuit Liquid Lips.

Have you tried lipsense before?

Ulta Beauty Cosmetics Part 2

I love shopping at Ulta. They are continuously adding more brands to their shelves and their rewards system is the best. I mean who doesn’t want to earn money off of their next purchase just for buying things you were going to get anyway? What a lot of people do not realize is that Ulta has their own in house brand. It ranges from makeup and skincare to hair and body products. I recently received a bunch of these products as a gift with purchase. I figured, why not make a part two to my Ulta Beauty review. You can check out part one here.

With my recent Ulta Beauty purchase, I received an eyeshadow primer, eyeshadow palette, eyeliner, mascara, face palette, lip primer, matte lip crayon and a lip gloss. Along with the makeup there was also a compact mirror, pencil sharpener and blush brush. All of these products came in a pretty purple watercolor makeup bag.

In my first Ulta Beauty Haul, we received a matte tinted primer. I loved it and still use it daily. In this bag we received the Tinted Eye Primer in Satin Blush. The tube is full sized and has a ton of product. The primer is a pink shimmer. The color is so pretty, but I would use it as a lid color or base for another pink shade. You wouldn’t be able to use this as a primer over your entire eye unless you want to look like you have pink eye.

The eyeshadow palette contains four matte shades and two shimmer. I was impressed with all of the shades, though the mattes were a little dry to the touch. The mattes included were Plum Pop, Desire, Say What and Buzzword. For the price, these blend much better than a lot of drugstore shadows. The shimmers, Sunshine and Fearless, are very pigmented and creamy. I used Say What to set my primer, Buzzword in the crease, Plum Pop on the outer corner with Fearless on the lid and Sunshine on the inner corner. I love the look as it reminded me of a sunset.

We received a pencil eye liner that is double sided. On one end is a liner in Blackout and the other end is in Plum. I am not a fan of these liners. I think they they are too stiff and not pigmented enough. That being said, I really enjoy the Ulta Beauty Gel Liners.

The final eye product is the Ulta Beauty Maximum Lashes Mascara. This mascara claims to be defining and lengthening. I already have fairly long lashes, but this product impressed me. It really helped to lengthen and define my lashes without being too wet or clumpy. It was also very black.

Along with the eyeshadow palette, there was a face palette that included a translucent powder, bronzer and highlight. The Ulta Finishing Powder in Translucent is great. I haven’t used setting powder in a while because it has been too drying. However, this one sets my concealer without making my under eyes super dry. As for the bronzer,  I usually prefer something cool toned. But, I do like the Ulta Matte Bronzer in Warm. It isn’t too orange and it blends really well. The only product I did not like in this palette is the highlighter. The Ulta Illuminator in Radiant Diamond was just too stiff and chunky for me. It was also subtle and accentuated texture. However, it can be pretty as an eyeshadow when built up and applied with a damp flat brush.

The Ulta Lip Primer claims to enhance the color of any lip product. I thought that it would act as a concealer on the lips, but it applied clear. I am not sure that it enhanced the color of my lipstick, but it was very hydrating and helped the product to go on smooth.

The final two products were both for the lips. The first is the Ulta Matte Lip Crayon in Soiree. The color is very pretty and the formula is pigmented and smooth. I found it to be comfortable to wear, but not long wearing. It is also hard to apply because the tip is so fat. Also included was the Color Rush Lip Gloss in Olivia. This gloss is so pretty, smooth and pigmented. It feels hydrating and looks great on the lips. I would recommend wearing this over a lip liner to keep it from feathering.

Overall, Ulta continues to surprise me. A lot of their product I have tried, I have really liked. Their eye shadows have proven blendable and pigmented while the lip products are comfortable and smooth. I am excited to see what this brand will come out with next. I have my fingers crossed for a Stila Magnificent Metals dupe.

Have you tried anything from Ulta Beauty?

Love it or Leave it: Wet n Wild Halloween

I am not sure what has happened. Last week it was sunny and 88 degrees and this morning I woke up and it was cloudy and supposed to be in the 60s all week. I guess that means it is officially fall, and that means that Halloween is just around the corner.

Although they only just release their Midnight Mermaid collection, I walked into my local Walgreens and found four limited edition Catsuit Liquid Lipsticks for Halloween.

The Halloween collection includes for new, unique shades. From top to bottom: Boo Blu, Terrifying Tangerine, Purple Panic and Emerald City. As of right now, the only places where this collection can be found is drug stores such as CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid.

Now, the colors are clearly something new and unique for the Catsuit line. Unfortunately, I was not a huge fan of these colors or formula. I found them to be a little patchy, but they are not terrible. I also find that they are more moussey than the permanent line and do not dry down all of the way, so they are not transfer proof.

For me, personally, I do not see myself getting much use out of these. If I am going to wear a crazy color, I would prefer it to be darker like the ones in the Midnight Mermaid collection. That being said, these could be really fun for Halloween! They would be perfect for costume makeup. Since I will most likely be working in a high school on Halloween, I think I am going to skip wearing a full costume and just go with crazy makeup. I’m thinking a candy corn theme with the orange lip.

What about you? Do you see yourself in any of these colors?
