Boxycharm: March 2018
This month has been crazy. There has been a lot of school work, travel and stress. I left for 10 days to be with my husband for spring break. It was amazing! It was so sad having to leave him again. I know this next month will fly by but still, I have been feeling kind of down. That is until I got this month’s Boxycharm. While it didn’t make me miss him less, who doesn’t get perked up when receiving a package in the mail?
If you aren’t familiar with Boxycharm, it is a monthly makeup subscription box. It generally have 5 products, all of which are full sized. Many times we receive items from large brands such as PÜR, Tarte, Cover Fx, and more. Check out Boxycharm here.
The first product in this month’s box was the South Mane Beauty Eye Gels ($9). While I am unsure of any actual skin care benefits, these are fun to use. I like to put them in the fridge for 10 minutes before using. That way, they have a cooling effect. They do not leave behind residue and my under eyes feel hydrated. They do have a tendency to slip while wearing. Overall, they are fun to use but a little pricey.
I have mentioned it before, but I love getting brushes in my Boxycharm. The more brushes I have just means the less I have to clean them all. This month, we received The Vintage Cosmetics Smokey Eye brush trio ($22). First impressions, these were so soft! They seemed to blend out and apply shadow nicely, but I will need to try them out with my regular palettes too. The only thing I don’t like is that these seem to stain rather easily.
Who doesn’t love an eye shadow palette? I have to admit, when I first saw the preview for this month, I was so excited. The Boxycharm x PÜR Cosmetics Eyeshadow Palette ($36) was stunning.
I was immediately drawn to the bottom row and love the eye look I came up with using MIA and BFF. That being said, I am not really wowed by this palette. Particularly, the shimmers are really lacking. No matter what I do, I cannot get them to look nice applied with a brush. Even when I apply them with my finger, they fade so fast. The only way I can get them to the intensity I want and keep them from fading is using the NYX Glitter Primer. Overall, I’m not a huge fan.
When describing my perfect mascara, it is something black that volumizes, separates my lashes and holds a curl. In our Baecation box, I recieved the Butter London Double Decker Lashes Mascara ($20). When I first applied this mascara, I hated it. I use a magnified mirror when applying mascara and to me it seemed so thick and clumpy. However, once I switched back to my regular mirror I liked it more. For me, I will probably use this mascara in the evening time or when I want my lashes to be more dramatic. Overall, it is black and holds a curl. It makes my lashes look more voluminous and dramatic. I just feel it is a little too thick/clumpy for my every day life.
The final product I received was the Pretty Vulgar Make Them Blush in Hush Blush ($26). When Pretty Vulgar first launched, I was obsessed with the packaging. It was the prefect mix of pretty and vintage. I was honestly a little afraid when I saw this color, it seemed so bright and intimidating. It actually blended out really well! I think this color is so pretty and will be perfect for spring and summer.
The overall value for my box was $113. Considering Boxycharm only costs $21, that is a pretty good value.
I am happy with this box even though everything didn’t work out. I really love the blush and have been using it daily. The mascara, brushes and eye gels are cool and I am happy to have them, though I wouldn’t repurchase. As for the eyeshadow palette, I am a little torn. I enjoy the color selection but find the formula hard to work with. I will continue to use it with a glitter glue, but I don’t recommend it.
What do you think of this month’s box??
