Boxycharm: May 2018
I am so happy to be back again with another Boxycharm box. Last month, I just ran out of time. If you would like to see what I got, you can check it out here.
This month is really special because it marks Boxycharm’s 5th birthday. To celebrate, they really went all out by including six products and several large brand names. If you are unfamiliar with Boxycharm, it is a monthly makeup subscription box. For $21, you will recieve a box 4-5 different full sized products. The box always has a retail value over $100. You can check out more here.
The first product in the May Boxycharm was the CoverFX Blurring Primer ($38).
This is one of those primers that is silicon based and has a little bit of slip to it. It is similar to the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, except not nearly as slippy. I really like this primer. It did help to blur out pores and fine line. My foundation, concealer and powders all applied beautifully. I will say, I think I could still benefit from a pore filling primer on my cheeks and by my nose. Overall, I really like this primer and will continue to use it.
The next items we received were all brushes. The first is the Aesthetica P12 Face Brush ($27). This brush is soft and good for blending out face powders. However, I would never pay $27 for it. At a max, I would say it is worth $10. If you need a good face brush, I recommend this one. The second brush item we received is the Aesthetica 3 Piece Brush Set ($47). Again, these are good brushes but no one should pay $47 for them. I highly recommend checking out Real Techniques or EcoTools.
With the 3 piece brush set, there was an eye liner brush included. This worked perfectly with the Ink Gel Eyeliner by Pretty Vulgar ($22). Like all Pretty Vulgar products, the packaging is the perfect mix of pretty and vintage. Now, I am not one for gel liner. Currently, I really love the KVD Tattoo Liner, which is a liquid liner with a brush tip.
That being said, I really like this liner so far. It goes on easily and stays put all day. It is super black, pigmented and matte. The only thing I don’t like is that the packaging is so dark, it is hard to see how much product you are getting on your brush.
Lately, it seems like we have been getting some type of makeup palette each month. This month, Boxycharm included the Sculptor Highlight & Contour Palette by PÜR Cosmetics ($30). The powder products all blend really well. I love Originator as a face highlight and Trailblazer is beautiful on the eyes (pictured above in the inner corner). Unfortunately, I think the contour powders are too dark for me. However, I can use them with a very light hand. This palette is beautiful and would be perfect for medium to deep skin tones.
The final product included in May’s box was the Matte Lip Gloss by Beauty Creations ($10). When I first saw the name, I was very intrigued about how you could have a matte lip gloss. To my dismay, it is just a regular matte liquid lipstick. The color Sweetheart is really pretty. The formula has a wonderful smell and is very light on the lips. It doesn’t feel like I am wearing anything. It was very comfortable to wear, however it all of the sudden started to ball up and wear off once I ate some almonds or drank water. If you don’t mind touching up during the day, you might really like these.
For me, the May Boxycharm was definitly worth it. I love the primer and gel liner. The brushes and lipstick are okay and I will continue to use them occasionally. For the contour and highlight palette, I think I will depot the highlights and pass the contour powders on to a friend.
I am so excited to see what will be coming in next month’s box. What are you most excited to see in an upcoming Boxycharm?
