DIY Coconut Shaving Cream

When the weekend comes, it’s time for my husband and I to just relax. We love going out and exploring all that is going on in our college town. However, this weekend that was not the case. He is so busy preparing to defend his PHD thesis and I had mountains of work to do. So when I went to take a shower on Saturday and realized I had no more shaving cream, I was frazzled. I didn’t want to put on clothes and run to the store, so instead I wrapped myself in a towel and headed to the kitchen.
Lucky for me, I always have a large container of coconut oil. If you remember my post from last Monday, I was able to whip some up and add sugar to create a scrub. That got me thinking, couldn’t that be used to create a shaving cream as well? The answer is yes. The best part is it took only 5 minutes to makes.

What you need:
Bowl
Coconut Oil

Mixer

Essential Oil (optional)

The process is the same as the Whipped Sugar Scrub.

I put about 1 cup of coconut oil with 3 drops of eucalyptus essential oil into my bowl. I decided to use eucalyptus because it is soothing and sometimes my legs can be rather sensitive.

Then, you just mix it on medium to high speed for about 5 minutes. I mixed this one longer than the sugar scrub because I wanted it to be extra whipped and creamy.

And that’s it! So quick, simple and inexpensive! And let me tell you, my skin loves it. I thought the Whipped Sugar Scrub helped my arms and legs, but this is even better! I swear my skin has never been softer.

I only have two quick notes. First, you will want a wash cloth to clean your razor off on to get the best shave. Second, I would not use this on your face because coconut oil has a comedogenic rating of 4. This means it is likely to make a lot of people breakout. While this oil is great for some people, be aware it came make some breakout. That is why I don’t use it on my face. For my body it seems to be fine.

Will you be giving this DIY shaving cream a try?

Hope you had a great weekend!
