Hello Happy Foundation
If you’ve checked out my Skin Diary posts, you know that I have struggled with my skin for some time now. While my acne is a whole lot better, I have noticed something else that is a rather BIG issue: my pores. Honestly, some days they looks so large I don’t even know what to do. When Benefit Cosmetics released the Hello Happy Foundation and claimed it had blurring properties, I knew I had to try it out.
The Hello Happy Soft Blur Foundation is a matte finish, light-to-medium coverage liquid foundation. Benefit claims that the foundation will even skin tone, blur imperfections all while helping to protect your skin with SPF and have no flashback. Honestly, these claims all sounded like a little much to expect from a foundation, especially with one that is light coverage. At $29 per ounce, I wanted to make sure the foundation was really worth the money.
The first time I used this foundation, I hated it. I used a sponge and it soaked up so much of the product! I felt like I was literally just washing money down the drain as I cleaned my sponge. The second time, I used a little bit of Smashbox pore filling primer and my Spectrum B01 foundation brush. With a foundation brush, this foundation went on smoothly and I didn’t feel like I was wasting product. My skin looked really, really good but I was truly amazed the next day I wore it. The third time, I accidently forgot all of my primers. Normally, my foundation would be sticking to dry patches and making my pores look like craters. However, I was amazed to see my skin look so good! My pores looked like I used a pore filling primer and I had zero dry patches.
So my Slam Scale is where I like to judge a product on a scale of 1-5 coffees in four different categories: shade range, longevity, application, and marketing claims. Why coffee you ask? Well, I love coffee. So the more I love a product, the more coffee it’s worth #coffeeaddict
Shade Range- When Benefit released their Hello Happy Foundation, they launched 12 shades: 4 fair/light, 4 medium, and 4 deep shades. While this isn’t the largest shade range we’ve seen lately, I feel it is at least balanced. ☕️☕️☕️
Longevity- On me, this foundation lasted all day. Usually that means about 8-10 hours of wear. Even though it is matte, my skin never looked dry or cakey. I think if you have oily skin, that you will need powder and a mattifying primer. However, for normal to dry skin it was perfect. ☕️☕️☕️☕️
Application- When using this foundation, don’t even try a sponge. Honestly, it will just drink up all of the product and look splotchy on the skin. However, with a brush, the Hello Happy foundation applies like a dream. So, with a brush it is definitely worth ☕️☕️☕️☕️
Market Claims- As a refresh, Benefit claims this foundation blurs pores/imperfections, has SPF with no flashback, a matte finish, and light-to-medium coverage. On me, the foundation seriously blurs my pores. While I haven’t tested out how well the SPF works, there definitely is no flashback in my photos. I would describe the finish as a comfort matte. It looks beautiful and matte without accentuating dry areas. Finally, I would 100% describe this as a light coverage foundation. With a brush, you could potentially get it to a medium. ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️
Overall, I give this foundation a 16 ☕️ out of 20. Not bad right?
Not going to lie, the Benefit Cosmetics Hello Happy Foundation is a new favorite. It is so quick and easy to apply, looks flawless and is long lasting. Since getting it a few weeks ago, it has become my new every day foundation. I think this will be especially perfect when I am teaching this fall because I know I can just slap it on and it will look great all day long. I really hope that Benefit decides to expand on this shade range, because everyone should have a chance to try this. Even though I am normally a full coverage kind of girl, this foundation just has a something special that makes it amazing.
